David Gen
David Gen, 87, of New York City died May 16, 2011. He was born and raised in Newark and also lived in North Arlington, Millburn, Wayne, and Lake Grove, NY, before moving to Manhattan six months ago.
Mr. Gen was the owner and contractor of Acme Sheet Metal.
He attended the Merchant Marine Academy and Johns Hopkins University.
He served as a Merchant Marine for six years and was an ensign in the U.S. Navy. He also served in the Israeli War for Independence on the storied ship the Altalena.
Predeceased by his wife, Lore, in 1991, he is survived by four daughters, Ricka Gen, Tamar Walsh, Yael Gen, and Ronit Kalmanor; his brother, Martin of Cranford; and four grandchildren.
Services were held May 20 with arrangements by Sherman’s Funeral Home, Brooklyn.
