Charles Joseph Shrem of Kinnelon died May 23, 2013. Born in Cairo, he left Egypt during the 1956 Suez Crisis, arriving in France as a political refugee before immigrating to the United States.
Mr. Shrem was one of the founders and the CEO of Commonwealth Metals Corp.
After retirement, he became a member and then chairman of the board of International Graduate University, Washington, DC.
Predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Vivian, he is survived by two sons, Jeff and Leslie; a brother, Henry; and three grandchildren.
Services were held May 26 with arrangements by Jewish Memorial Chapel, Clifton.
