Carolyn Rothschild
Carolyn Litwin Rothschild, 88, of Short Hills died Jan. 8, 2013. She was born in Newark.
Mrs. Rothschild focused her energies on children in need and was the founder of Playhouse Nursery School in West Orange. Continuing her work, she volunteered in Newark family courts conducting child placement reviews for DYFS.
She graduated from Skidmore College as an English major and received a master’s degree in early childhood development at Cornell University.
She was on the credential committee for the 1972 Democratic convention and was a member of Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel, South Orange.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, David Emil; two sons, Stephen (Beth) of Jersey City and Michael (Maria) of Denver; her daughter, Ami Rothschild of New York City; a brother, Gordon Litwin; and five grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 13 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Aid and Family Services Inc., South Orange.
