Carol Rosen

Carol Rosen (Mendes), 81, of Califon died April 8, 2014. Born in New York City, she lived in New Rochelle, NY, and then Livingston before moving to Califon 36 years ago. 

An accredited art teacher, Mrs. Rosen taught in West Orange at Mountain High School for some 25 years, retiring from teaching almost 30 years ago. She was also a renowned artist whose work was recently exhibited at the Hunterdon Museum and the University of Rochester. Some of her works are also part of the permanent collection of the Memorial of the Unknown Jewish Martyr, Paris; Victoria & Albert Museum, London; Sourasky Library, Tel Aviv University; Hebrew University Library, Jerusalem; Newark Public Library; New Jersey State Museum; Yale University, Arts of the Book Collection; Simon Wiesenthal Center, Los Angeles; and the Smithsonian Institution, National Collection of Fine Arts. 

She received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in fine art from Hunter College, New York. 

She is survived by her husband, Elliot, and her brother, Richard Mendes. 

Services were held April 13 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Whippany.
