Birthright’s value
Martin Raffel’s “What’s the story with Birthright?” (Aug. 16) is probably the most thoughtful, in-depth, honest, and well-sourced treatment of this issue I have read. His probing analysis, combined with a heartfelt empathy for the complexity and resonances that attend what is loosely known as “Israel Education” in an age of social media-induced echo-chamber thinking, polarized disputations about the future of Jewish identity in America, and dire projections of Israel’s moral trajectory give the reader a level-headed basis for understanding as well as the rarest of commodities: hope. Yasher koach.
