During Sept. 16 Selichot services Temple Beth El in Somerset made two dedications honoring Sheryl Rosner and Al Nacson. Rosner, daughter of Barry and Bobbi Rosner, was killed in the World Trade Center terrorist attacks on 9/11; Nacson, who acted as the High Holy Day hazzan for many years, recently passed away. Rosner’s parents dedicated three new High Holy Day Torah covers in her memory.
“It is my prayer that every time we look at these Torah covers we will remember the beauty that Sheryl brought to this world,” said Beth El’s Rabbi Eli Garfinkel.
Friends of Nacson funded in his memory a new “bein gavra” — the name given to the cloth that covers the Torah between aliyot. “Just as the bein gavra protects the modesty of the Torah scroll, Al Nacson served our congregation with modesty and always acted as our humble emissary to God rather than a performer,” Garfinkel said.
