Bessy Lat

Bessy Lat, 72, of Manalapan died Sept. 21, 2012. Born in Riga, Latvia, in 1980 she and her family, sponsored by Jewish Family Service of MetroWest, immigrated to the United States, settling in Bloomfield.

Mrs. Lat began her career in education in Riga. She worked at the Boarding School for the Blind and Partially Sighted.

She graduated from State Pedagogical University in St. Petersburg, Russia. She earned a second master’s degree in education in the United States and worked in a public school.

She is survived by her husband of more than 49 years, Gregory; her daughter, Elina Zabalotsky of Morganville; her son, Jacob of Manalapan; a sister, Rena Eydenzun of Wayne; and two grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 24 with arrangements by Jewish Memorial Chapel, Clifton. Memorial contributions may be made to the NJ Foundation for the Blind or National Breast Cancer Foundation.
