Bernice Rosenberg
Bernice Berman Rosenberg, 99, of Milford, Conn., died Aug. 5, 2019. She was born and raised in Elizabeth. She raised her children in Hillside before relocating first to Skowhegan, Maine, and then moving to Lakehurst. She was a resident of Connecticut for the past 20 years.
A schoolteacher, Mrs. Rosenberg taught high school in Bound Brook, at Battin High School in Elizabeth, and finally in Roselle Park, where she helped mentor younger teachers.
She was a graduate of Montclair State Teachers College, eventually earning a master’s degree in education.
She was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy in Lakehurst as a code breaker and later in the Naval Reserve from 1946 to 1949, having achieved the rank of first lieutenant.
While living in Hillside, she was an active member of the League of Women Voters and the National Council of Jewish Women.
Predeceased by her husband, Abby C., whom she married in 1947, she is survived by her son, Daniel W., and her daughter, Marjorie.
Services with military honors were held Aug. 7 with arrangements by Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, Ewing.
