Bernard Perelmuter
Rabbi Bernard Perelmuter, 88, of Newtown, Pa., died March 15, 2014. Born in Montreal, he was a former resident of Daytona Beach, Fla.; Baltimore; Cleveland; and Erie, Hazelton, and Yardley, Pa.
Rabbi Perelmuter was a rabbi for over 60 years and was the spiritual leader at Har Sinai Temple for 15 years.
He was a graduate of McGill University and Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, where he was ordained.
He was active in many community issues throughout his life; prominent among them were civil and human rights, social justice, mental health, and community and interfaith outreach. He was the Jewish Federation campaign chairman, 1973-74.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eleanor Ralph Perelmuter; two daughters, Ariel Perelmuter (Gene Chertock) and Deborah Perelmuter (James Jarosik); and a grandson.
Services were held March 18 at Har Sinai Temple with arrangements by Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, Ewing. Memorial contributions may be made to Greenwood House, 53 Walter St., Ewing, NJ 08628 or Har Sinai Temple.
