Bernard Menkes

Bernard Menkes of Morristown died April 19, 2017. Born in Newark, he lived in Morristown for the past 66 years. Mr. Menkes was a cost accountant, first working for Colonial Life Insurance Company and then continuing with Chubb Insurance Company after it acquired Colonial. 

He held a B.S. in accounting from Seton Hall University, South Orange. 

He was a founding member of Temple B’nai Or of Morristown and was recently honored by the Woodland Hook and Ladder Company Number One for his 65 years of service as a volunteer firefighter. 

He is survived by his wife, Elaine (Shapiro); two daughters, Barbara (Mike) Goggin of Lakewood, Calif., and Jenni (Wayne) Craig of Long Beach, Calif.; his son, David of New York City; two sisters, Gloria Stempler of Freehold and Arlene Shapiro of Millburn; and a granddaughter. 

Private services were held with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Springfield.
