Bernard Margolis

Bernard Margolis, 96, West Orange died Oct. 21, 2011. Born in Newark, he previously resided in Irvington, West Orange, and Livingston.

Mr. Margolis was a mason and general contractor for over 70 years. He was associated with Louis Margolis & Son Construction and also owned of B. Margolis Construction in Irvington, NJ.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy as a member of the Sea Bees.

Active in the Jewish War Veterans, he was also involved with the Irvington Chamber of Commerce. He was an original member and founder of Beth Torah in Orange.

Predeceased by his wife, Mildred (Hersh), and a daughter, Janice Margolis, he is survived by his daughter, Iris Straus of Alexandria, Va.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his domestic partner, Vashti Bolton.

Services were held Oct. 24 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
