Bernard Hirshfield

Bernard Hirshfield, 90, of Marlboro died May 25, 2011. He previously lived in Queens before moving to Marlboro, where he lived for more than 25 years.

Mr. Hirshfield owned and managed Hirshfield’s Florsheim Shoes in Astoria until 1976.

He served in World War II in the Army Air Corps in the South Pacific from 1942 through 1945 as a crew chief on bombardier, for which he received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Philippine Liberation Service Medal, and WWII Victory Service Medal.

He attended Astoria Center of Israel, Queens, and spent two years as chancellor commander of Knights of Pythias.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley; his daughters, Marsha Sobel, Carol Hirshfield, and Barbara Schwartz; and eight grandchildren.

Services were held May 26 with arrangements by Sinai Chapels, Queens.
