Bernard Blau
Bernard (Bernie) Blau, 86, of Maplewood died Aug. 12, 2013. Born in Passaic, he was raised in Newark and Irvington before moving to Hillside and then Maplewood, where he eventually retired.
Mr. Blau worked at Tabatchnick’s and Livingston Bagel, creating Jewish delicacies.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was honorably discharged afterward.
For many years he was an active member of B’nai B’rith, Liberty Young Men’s Association, and the Jewish War Veterans.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Beatrice (Schulman) Blau; two daughters, Leslee (Reid) Hagerty of Florida and Cindy Blau of Maplewood; two sons, Steven (Jackie) of Springfield and Lewis (Rosa) of Hillsborough; a brother, Irving of Livingston; and seven grandchildren.
Services were held Aug. 14 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to Maplewood First Aid Squad, 129 Boyden Ave., Maplewood, NJ 07040.
