Ben Halper

Ben Halper, 91, of Livingston died Aug. 2, 2012. Born in Newark, he also had lived in Hillside and Short Hills.

Mr. Halper was an executive and one of the owners of Halper Bros. Paper Co. of Edison, formerly of Elizabeth.

He served his country during World War II in the European Theatre, Battle of the Bulge, where he was wounded. He received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart awards.

He was a member of Temple B’nai Abraham, Livingston, and the Hillside Lodge of B’nai B’rith. He was also a Master Mason and a Shriner.

Predeceased by his wife of over 61 years, Miriam, he is survived by two sons, Irwin and Robert; his daughter, Jane Eisenstat; a brother, Irving; a sister, Rose Axelrod; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were held Aug. 3 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to Temple B’nai Abraham, St. Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care Center, or St. Barnabas Medical Center’s Burn Unit.
