Beauty of interfaith household
In “Clarion call to Conservative rabbis” (Oct. 26) it is mentioned that the Conservative movement has always forbidden intermarriage. Then it says that clergy will not officiate at an interfaith marriage. These are two entirely different situations and should not be confused.
The movement simply cannot forbid intermarriage among assimilated people, surely not in this century. It also reflects very poorly on their ability to relate to non-Jews who wish to learn more about, and take advantage of, the beauty and spirituality offered by Judaism. Perhaps they should take a closer look at the insights that children of interfaith marriages have gained and demonstrated in their religious school classes. They might see the spiritual beauty that is shared in an interfaith household.
