Beatrice Reiss

Beatrice Reiss (Strauss), 89, of Westfield died July 7, 2015. Born in New York City, she moved to Westfield 58 years ago. 

Mrs. Reiss worked as a nurse at Overlook Hospital in Summit, retiring 17 years ago. 

She was a graduate of Hunter College and Cornell University School of Nursing. 

She was an active member of Temple Emanu-El of Westfield and its sisterhood. She was a founder of the synagogue’s nursery school and served several times as chair of the sisterhood’s annual crafts show in Westfield. She was also a member of Workmen’s Circle of New York.

Predeceased by her husband, Sanford M., and a daughter, Monica Reiss, she is survived by her son, David of Hoboken; two daughters, Franci Sagar and Ruth Reiss, both of New York City; and three grandchildren. 

Services were held July 9 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Springfield. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation, Westfield Memorial Library, YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, Arnold P. Gold Foundation, or Workmen’s Circle.
