Barbara Kaplan

Barbara Staff Kaplan, 90, of Pittsboro, NC, died May 12, 2013. Born and raised in Long Beach, NY, she also had lived in Westfield, Monmouth Beach, and Boynton Beach, Fla.

Mrs. Kaplan worked as a social worker for Spaulding for Children, helping to place children with disabilities into adoptive families.

She attended Western College in Oxford, Ohio, and graduated from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

She and her husband were among the early families in Temple Emanu-El, Westfield, where she contributed to the sisterhood’s community-based activities.

Predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Harry, she is survived by two sons, Arthur (Jean) of Graham, NC, and Louis (Leslee) of West Grove, Pa.; two daughters, Leslie of Edison and Judy Gilbar (Ncoom) of Israel; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were held May 16 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to Galloway Ridge for resident activities, 3000 Galloway Ridge, Pittsboro, NC 27312.
