Barbara Feldstein

Barbara Polancer Feldstein, 87, of West Orange died May 13, 2019. Born in Waterbury, Conn., she lived in Livingston for almost 50 years.

Mrs. Feldstein began her career as a medical researcher at Rockefeller University in New York. She later taught biology and biochemistry at Columbia High School in Maplewood for 20 years.

She graduated from Wellesley College in 1953 and earned her master’s degree in teaching from Kean University.

She was a lifetime member of National Council of Jewish Women, serving as president of the Livingston chapter; she also helped to found, and served as president, of the Business and Professional Women’s Division of NCJW in Essex County.

She was an active member of Temple B’nai Jeshurun in Short Hills for more than 50 years, and twice celebrated her adult bat mitzvah, in Israel and at the temple.

Predeceased by her husband, Joel, she is survived by two daughters, Janet Feldstein (Benny) Conetta of Hoboken and Judy Feldstein (Paul) Savage of Bucks County, Pa.; and six grandchildren.

Services were held May 15 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to Temple B’nai Jeshurun or National Council of Jewish Women’s Essex County Section.
