Balance is antidote to dogma

Kudos to the Write On For Israel program for providing a balanced view of today’s Israel as both “it’s a miracle” and “it’s complicated” (Gary Rosenblatt’s Between the Lines, “Students confront Israel’s complexity,” Feb. 28). I believe that such a balanced view is the only way to take the wind out of the sails of the dogmatic anti-Israel extremists those high school students will face.

F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote that “The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time, and still retain the ability to function.” We all need to cultivate our first-rate intelligence in order to defend Israel’s place in the world.
