Arthur Falkin

Arthur Milton Falkin of Whippany died Oct. 28, 2013. Born in the Bronx, he lived in Port Chester, NY; Stamford, Conn.; and in Springfield from 1956 until moving one month ago to Whippany. He also owned a home in Boynton Beach, Fla.

Mr. Falkin, the first Jewish mayor of Springfield, was the owner of Falkin Associates of Cranford for over 30 years, retiring 10 years ago.

He attended New York University.

He served as Springfield mayor in 1963 and again in 1966. He was a town councilman for nine years, a past president and permanent trustee of Temple Beth Ahm Yisrael of Springfield, where he had served on numerous committees over the years and was a men’s club member, and a member of B’nai B’rith’s Springfield Lodge.

Predeceased by his wife of almost 70 years, Claire, he is survived by three sons, Gary (Arlene) of Florham Park, Stuart (Sharon) of West Orange, and Richard (Judith) of Springfield; a brother, Robert; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Oct. 30 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Springfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Claire and Arthur Falkin Scholar-In-Residence Fund at Beth Ahm Yisrael.
