Arlene Sherer

Arlene Sherer of Newport Beach, Calif., died June 8, 2011. Born in Somerville, she also had lived in Watchung.

Dr. Sherer completed residencies at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City and the New York Psychoanalytic Institute. During her 30-plus years of practicing psychiatry in Scotch Plains, she helped thousands of patients. She was an active member of the New Jersey Psychiatric and American Psychiatric Associations.

She graduated from Rutgers Preparatory High School, Rutgers University, and Women’s Medical College, now Drexel University, in Philadelphia.

She is survived by her husband, David Schnur; two daughters, Barbara Sherer of St. Louis and Susan Powell of Las Vegas; her stepson, Steven Schnur of Santa Monica, Calif.; her stepdaughter, Marjorie Fraser of Stamford, Conn.; and seven grandchildren.

Services were held June 13 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to Drexel University College of Medicine, Class of 1966 Endowment Scholarship Fund.
