Arad students selected for physics program

Shani Messner and Shachar Schweiber, students at Ulpanat Bnei Akiva Neot Avraham in Arad, have been chosen by Ben-Gurion University’s Ilan Ramon Department of Astrophysics to join 16 other top high school physics students for a tour of the CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) atomic particle accelerator in Switzerland in February.

Arad is a sister city of the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ through the Jewish Agency’s Partnership 2Gether program.

The participating students, who were chosen on the basis of their academic excellence in physics and English language skills, will spend four intensive days at the CERN facility in lectures and demonstrations by Europe’s top physicists. The project is sponsored by the European Union with the goal of encouraging top students to pursue careers in the scientific fields.
