Allen Helfman
Allen Lee Helfman, 82, of Plantation, Fla., died March 9, 2015. He lived in Newark and Union before moving to Plantation in 1973.
For many years, Mr. Helfman worked for Admiral Corporation/Rockwell International in the Commercial Television division. He traveled all over the country and was recognized for his sales acumen. One of his activities with the company entailed trips for dealers whose sales were exemplary, earning trips to Europe and South America. After moving to Plantation, he became successful in marine financing and sales of watercraft.
He graduated from South Side High School in Newark, where he was on the swimming and basketball teams, and attended Seton Hall College.
He was drafted into the Army in 1952-1954 and was stationed in Washington, DC. He earned the rank of sergeant.
He was a founding member and chairman of Medical Parents Association of the University of Miami as well as Law Parents Association during the 1980s.
Predeceased by a grandson, Ryan Helfman, he is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean; his daughter, Shari Helfman (Bruce) Liebman; two sons, Gary (Holly) and Steven (Audrey); his mother, Belle Helfman; and nine grandchildren.
Services were held March 12; a military funeral with honors was held at the time of burial. Arrangements were handled by Star of David Memorial Chapel, North Lauderdale, Fla.
