Allan C. Kane
Allan C. Kane, 92, a 57-year resident of Cranford, died Aug. 20, 2011. Born in Newark, he was raised in an orphanage until the age of 18.
Mr. Kane was a registered investment advisor with offices in Cranford since 1980. He was most recently affiliated with Financial Network Investment Corporation. He was president of Allan C. Kane Associates, a financial planning corporation, since 1959, and was an award-winning representative of Continental American Life Insurance Company and a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table. He also served as president of Econominium Vacations, Diversified Planning Inc., and Cellular Corp., and as chairman of numerous investment committees. For five years, he authored a column in the Cranford Chronicle, “Money Matters.”
He continued to be occupied with computer trading and his financial planning business.
He graduated from South Side High School, Newark, and won a scholarship to Wisconsin University.
After obtaining a pilot’s license, he became an officer in the Army Engineers. He served in the Pacific Theatre and was discharged after World War II as a first lieutenant.
He was also known as a naturalist, both in gardening with his 200 specimens of cactus plants and in his love of nature.
He served as a secretary-treasurer of the Weequahic Lions Club for 10 years. He was a charter member of the Cranford Rotary and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of B’nai B’rith and Temple Beth-El Mekor Chayim in Cranford.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rae (Mirsky); his daughter, Leslie Kane of Ridgewood; two sons, Martin of Orlando, Fla., and Daniel of Suwanee, Ga.; and a grandson.
Services were held Aug. 22 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to Temple Beth-El Mekor Chayim.
