Alexander Sadle

Alexander “Sandy” Sadle, 93, of Morristown died Dec. 30, 2010. He was born in Washington, DC.

During World War II, he worked at Edgewood Arsenal in Baltimore in the area of chemical warfare. During his career, he worked for Allied Chemical and International Paper. He was responsible for many patents, and his early research led to the development of the particle board.

He attended the University of Maryland, graduating with a PhD in organic chemistry in 1948.

Following open heart surgery, he was an active volunteer for Mended Hearts and for the Senior Health Insurance Program at Morristown Memorial Hospital. He was recognized as volunteer of the year several times, and donated over 4,000 hours of his time. He was also a member of Morristown Jewish Center Beit Yisrael.

Predeceased by his wife of 23 years, Gladys Asrael Sadle, and a daughter, Louise Sadle MacIntosh, he is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mollie Berger Sadle; two daughters, Claire Goodman of Charlotte, NC, and Rivka Silverman of Silver Spring, Md.; five sons, Elliott of Louisville, Ky., Jay of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Richard of Virginia Beach, Va., Burton of Los Angeles, and Alec MacIntosh of Greensboro, NC; and 15 grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 2 with arrangements by Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, Silver Spring. Memorial contributions may be made to Morristown Memorial’s Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute or Mended Hearts.
