Alan Brookman

Alan Brookman, 91, D.D.S., of Maplewood died May 9, 2017. Born in Inwood, NY, he was raised in Newark. 

Dr. Brookman practiced as a dentist in Livingston for over 50 years. He began his career at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in 1952, and rose to be director of dental education and resident training. He also served as president of the Medical Center’s dental staff. He was awarded the 50-year award for being the head of the Intern Select program at Beth Israel Hospital.

He graduated from New York University Dental School. 

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. 

He was past president of the NJ Academy of General Dentistry. He was a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, the International College of Dentists, and American College of Dentistry. He was a member of the NJ and Essex County dental associations and Dental Volunteers for Israel. 

He was an original member of and was very active at Temple Beth Shalom in Livingston. 

He participated in many charitable causes, including providing dental services on Israeli kibbutzim and dental services to inmates at New Jersey correctional facilities.

Predeceased by his wife, Rhoda, he is survived by his daughter, Lisa Brookman (Alvin) Schein, and his son, James (Rebecca). 

Services were held May 12 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston.
