Abraham Singer

Abraham Singer, 88, who had resided in Troy, NY, and Boca Raton, Fla., died June 13, 2013. Born in the Polish town of Chmelnik, he and four of his siblings survived the Holocaust.

After the war, Mr. Singer made his way to Glasgow, Scotland, where he became a master watchmaker at the British Horological Institute. He later moved to Troy, establishing the family business, Singer’s Watchmakers & Jewelers. He retired about 10 years ago; his business continues under his son’s leadership in Albany, NY.

He helped establish Congregation Torah Ohr in Boca Raton. He served in many communal leadership roles in Troy, including as president of Temple Beth El.

He is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Rita (Lakritz); two daughters, Lorraine (Harvey) Rappoport and Beena (Steven) Levy of Morristown; a sister, Gittel Fastag; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Services were held June 16 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston.
