“The Theologies of Bruce Springsteen” Professor Azzan Yadin-Israel
Azzan Yadin-Israel, Professor of Jewish Studies, Rutgers University will return to Congregation Shomrei Emunah for the first of a series of three lectures. Yadin-Israel spent two years mining Springsteen songs for his book, The Grace of God and the Grace of Man: The Theologies of Bruce Springsteen, unearthing numerous Old Testament themes and reinterpretations of Bible passages from his lyrics. Musical Scholar in Residence
Congregation Shomrei Emunah, Montclair. Joey Weisenberg, creative director of Mechon Hadar Rising Song Institute, will lead Shabbat services Friday night and Saturday morning. On March 1, after a community Shabbat dinner, he will teach “Art of the Nigun” at 7 p.m. On March 2, he will teach “The Architecture of Listening” at services at 9:30 a.m.; and will lead an inspirational service at 5 p.m. and Havdalah at 6:30. Based on his extensive knowledge of nigunim (wordless melodies), nusach (prayer chant), and other musical styles, Joey Weisenberg, Creative Director of Hadar's Rising Song Institute teaches us how to mine the soul of any melody.
