THE RACHEL COALITION, a division of Jewish Family Service of MetroWest NJ, will hold its third annual Candlelight Vigil, to honor victims and survivors of domestic abuse and mark National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Livingston Memorial Oval gazebo. Community organizations, political leaders, and clergy members will participate.
A partnership of eight northern New Jersey organizations, the coalition provides services and support to victims of domestic violence and works to increase awareness of the issue. Cohosting the vigil are Essex County and state agencies, including Essex County Family Justice Center, Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Safe House/Barnabas Health, Family Connection and Domestic Violence Response Team of West Orange Police Department, and NJ Department of Children and Families.
The coalition offers individual and group counseling, a 24-hour crisis intervention hotline, an emergency safe house, and a court advocacy training program. Access to legal and medical support is available to all on a nonsectarian basis; visit jfsmetrowest.org.
