Albert Lipowitz, 86, of West Orange died March 5, 2012.
Mr. Lipowitz was the retired owner of Almon, a manufacturing business.
A Purple Heart recipient, he endured the attack on the SS Leopoldville, a civilian military transport ship that was torpedoed in the English Channel, surviving by floating at sea until he was rescued.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice; four sons, Martin, Robert, David, and Richard; and two grandchildren.
Services were held March 9 with arrangements by J.L. Apter Memorial Chapels of Cedar Grove.
